A tap and die set (shown in picture) is used to cut threads into holes or rods, allowing bolts or nuts to be attached. Tapping uses the tap portion to cut threads into holes so that bolts may be attached. Threading uses the die portion to form threads on a rod so that nuts may be attached.

We tap for the following:

  • SSRs attached to the heat sink using two 6-32 x 1/2" machine screws.*
  • Heat sink attached to the enclosure using six 1/4-20 x 1" stove bolts.*
  • Components installed to the black plate using 3/16 x 3/4" and 1/8 x 1/2" stove bolts.

We recommend tapping the control panel back plate with threaded holes so that nuts are not required on the back side, simplifying future maintenance.

*Not required if you are building from one of our control panel kits.
