Chilled conical fermenters are used to control the temperature of fermentation through an integrated temperature controller. Simply use the up/down buttons to set your desired temperature.

More advanced units are cooled by simply plugging them into an outlet (shown on left), while others require chilling through an ice bath in a cooler (shown on right).

These advanced conicals measure the actual wort temperature instead of the ambient air. This is important as wort undergoing active fermentation can easily measure 5-6 degrees above the desired temperature in typical home fermenter sizes

Some advanced conicals include both integrated heating/cooling systems for the ultimate in flexibility.
