I have been using my control panel for several years without any issues. Today when I turned it on the HLT PID did not come on. The display is completely dark. The other PID's function as normal. I have confirmed that the PID is getting power and checked all connections for loose or damaged wires. Anything else I need to check or has the PID failed?

I built the control panel several years ago from a kit purchased from the The Electric Brewery.

Thanks
Alan

Hi Alan,

If you confirmed that the PID is receiving power (screws 9/10) and it's not turning on, then it's broken and needs to be replaced. All it takes is a screwdriver. Replacement PIDs are here: https://shop.theelectricbrewery.com/collections/temperature-controllers/products/syl-2352-pid-temperature-controller

Cheers!

Kal

I'm curious, what would cause "it's broken"?

Hi KB!

Think of a PID as a small (completely self contained) computer full of hundreds of components. If one of those components breaks then the PID will stop working. Most will last for years of course. The good thing is that they’re inexpensive and easy to change. All it takes is a screwdriver. As to what stopped working? That's anyone's guess, but typically electrolytic caps are the first to go, just like in most electronics, but there's no guarantee of that.
