Anyone ever mashed overnight? I'm thinking about getting everything setup and going before I head to bed tonight as I have a small window to brew tomorrow. Could you think of any ill affects from the prolonged mash?

Nope! It'll simple ensure it's completely converted. Just make sure to not leave the lid off as you don't want evaporation.
The only downside I'd say is the chance of something going wrong (like the HLT pump seizing) and getting the HLT going to boil. Generally speaking I don't recommend people leave any brewing setup unattended. If you use only quality parts (like the March pumps we sell and have proven to be able to run for years continously) I'd be less concerned but most people look for cheaper alternatives and jerry rig things together.
Good luck!

Thanks Kal. I've got 2x Chugger pumps. Just recently replaced a March pump that had served its purpose for over 15 years. Replaced it because I couldn't match flow rates and even with replacing the washers and periodic oiling it seemed to be struggling. That being said I was pretty happy with its life. It certainly wasn't treated well for its first decade of use.
Might just fire things up at 3am when my 4 month old seems to now want a bottle.

Happy brew day!
I'll be making a Belgian Dubbel on Sunday myself.

I've been separating my mash day from my boil day for a while now, especially for non-simple step mashes. After filling the BK, I set it to "auto" hold at 160. I set the alarm for 190 just in case something goes amiss. While the electrical is still "running", there is nothing mechanical going on.

That works too!
I've done that a few times when I finish sparging early in the day didn't want to start the boil until later (usually after the kids are in bed).

Thanks Kal. Things went great. Ended up starting things pretty early in the morning and didn't sparge until late in the afternoon on Saturday. Looking forward to the Dubbel recipe.

I just changed my brew schedule, I'm now heating my strike water while I sleep, mashing at 5 am, done brewing by noon including cleanup, very nice brew day
