Wondering if anyone has any advice for temp readings that are constantly jumping 1-5 degrees. Every video I see has a consistent temp but mine always jump around.

Hi and welcome to the forum!

What PID are you using? What temperature probe? What's your setup like? When/where is it jumping? The more info you have the better.

Assuming you're using something based on the design as outlined on our website, did you set the FILT option per the initial control panel setup instructions here?: http://www.theelectricbrewery.com/control-panel-setup

Cheers!

Kal

Hi Kal

I have the 1 BBL + system from the electric brewery. But the DIY one so im not sure if maybe I messed something up or I didn't program the PID properly. The jumping I get is at all phases. whether its mashing or boiling now I know there are temperature fluctuations but its hard to gauge what tmp im at. Am I at 152 or 155 now its 151. I am using the thermo probes that are sold on your website as well. Ill have to recheck the FILT options and see if I did.

Definitely sounds like the FILT option wasn't set up. Make sure to give that initial setup page a read - there's a bunch of settings that should be set. Only needs to be done once. Cheers!

I recently had an issue with temps jumping around on mash tun. Turned out to be a loose connection on the RTD connection to the PID controller.

rivetcatcher makes a good point. That could be it as well. Is it happening the same way with all 3 PIDs? If yes, it’s most likely that the FILT setting is not set up. If it's correctly set and only one PID is affected, try swapping things around to see what the issue follows (temp probe tip, temp probe cable, or PID/inner control panel wiring). You can quickly do this by swapping temp probe XLR plugs on the bottom of the control panel and by disconnecting/reconnecting at the probe tip end. Let us know how you make out!
