Hey Kal,

I am considering trying out the hop stopper keg edition and I thought that a good place to use them would also be in the fermentor. Have you thought of attaching them to the racking arm and then you can just keep it pointed in the down position or do you think the yeast/trump would either get through or clog it up? Sanitation may also be an issue as I know it can be tough to fully clean it and it is not as big of a deal on the hot side with the hop stopper, or after fermentation and at near freezing in the keg. Thoughts?

Yes - we've had many questions about this.

Fermentation contains a huge amount of debris with a mud consistency (mostly yeast of course). I don’t think a screen of any type would be viable as a primary barrier at the bottom of a fermenter installed before fermentation starts. To much trub settling on it over the fermentation.

But as a filter to be inserted after everything has settled as you mentioned, that could work. The Hop Stopper Keg Edition for use in Corny type kegs might be a good option if you don’t mind siphoning with a wand type device that is inserted at the time of siphoning and not attached to your fixed dip tube in the fermenter.

Soak it in sanitizer or boil it, and it'll be clean (sanitized). For the last 6 months I've been using them I've been spraying them clean with a hard spray as they come out of the keg, then soaking them for a day or two with my various keg bits in sanitizer before use.

Kal
