Hello all,
Long time lurker (a couple of months) but first time post. I am planning on building a 3 vessel brewhaus and was wondering if someone could elaborate more on why a 2 piece fittings to the hoses (SS female quick disconnect MPT + 1.2" FPT + 1/2" barb) is preferable to a single female quick disconnect to 1/2" barb.

To quote from The Electric Brewery: "We opted to use the two separate pieces instead as it makes the solid ends of the hose a bit heavier (better when sparging into the boil kettle and filling fermenters) and a bit longer (easier to grip). Which option you choose is up to you."

I can understand the easier to grip part, but can you elaborate on how the two piece is better for sparging since both solutions appear to have the save inside diameters? While I do not wish to sacrifice quality of the beer for cheaper costs, where the one piece solution would be cheaper by a whopping ~$50.00 when you factor in all the disconnects in the 3 vessel system, I am still interested in what others think here. Given that ~$50 in savings here and there add up, Id rather invest that cumulative savings elsewhere in the brewery process if the differences really aren't that great.

Thanks! Very Happy

My interpretation for the 2 piece is that it is heavier and less likely to flop out of a kettle or fermenter spraying water or wort all over (which has happened to me using just an unweighted hose).

This would be my understanding also.

Two piece also works well if you want to do a 90 degree elbow going into a bulkhead.

Bingo! That's the answer. Sorry if this wasn't clear!

When I sparge into the boil kettle I just drape the hose over the side. Why? Because it makes it easier to take samples for gravity/pH or whatever reason I want to take samples for. Take a look at my BREW DAY STEP BY STEP for more explanation: http://www.theelectricbrewery.com/brew-day-step-by-step

For fermenters it helps as well for the same reasons. See this video (it's about the Hop Stopper but shows how I fill fermenters): https://www.instagram.com/p/BjA1KQ-hCPG/

At the end of the choice is yours of course! Welcome to the forum!

Thanks for the replies, makes sense. Just misunderstood the "it helps with sparging" comment and was thinking how the heck does it affect sparging flow ? Very Happy
