Best guess is they at one time calibrated it but it sat long enough unused that it lost calibration for a lack of better terms. Calibrating it should take care of your issues..

However- if your readings are still to acidotic you can add a small amount of calcium carbonate or sodium bicarbonate stir and retest. Note- I would keep in mind your starting sodium levels when picking which to use. I tend to use calcium carbonate.

Quick update.

Completed my 3rd brew a few weeks ago, but before doing so, I calibrated my PH meter. All readings during the brew day were normal, thankfully.
