I have a question about mash thickness when running a herms system. Do you still have to follow the qt/lb ratio or can you just add a much higher volume of water to the MT. For example, if I need a total of 8 gallons of water can I mash with 6 gal and sparge with 2? The grain bills are approximately 10 lb. My system utilizes three 10 gallon Spike kettles with the Spike false bottom. Thank you.

Mash thickness comes into play on any setup regardless of how it’s heated.
You can do as you please really, but be accepting of the results.

Take a look at my BREW DAY STEP BY STEP for more info on thickness, sparge vs mash amounts, etc: http://www.theelectricbrewery.com/brew-day-step-by-step

Let me know if you have specific questions. Cheers!
