|

Greetings all,
I purchased the 30 amp 240 volt Brew Buddy DIY kit from Auberins and have it all finished. I followed their troubleshooting tree to verify I had 120 volts at all indicated locations. When I turn the switch to the boil kettle heating element everything works fine. When I select the hot liquor tank heating element the contactor makes a loud growling noise. I'm hesitant to leave it on for troubleshooting so I thought I would ask. The flag on the contactor trips indicating it's getting power and the light on the front of my panel turns on with a positive indication.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
- Destin

Hi Kal,
I did send a message to Auberins. In the past they have been really good about getting back to me. Seems to me that it may be a contactor issue but I thought I would ask. I know it may be hard to troubleshoot a panel that an end user wired up, especially one of a different design from what you offer. Just thought I would ask and see if anyone has any suggestions.
Thanks,
- Destin

I switched contactors between the boil kettle and the hot liquor tank and now everything works as advertised. Strange. I'll do a test with 10 gallons of water and see how things go.

I'm thinking one of the power wires going into the first contactor was just a little short and I had a bad connection. I made a new wire for the contactor when I switched them around.
