I'm looking to build a simple ice cooler chiller for my conical and wanted to know if folks had recommendations on pumps and insulated tubing.

You looking to use ice water plus a coil in the conical?

That can be done a couple ways. If you have a normal Top Freezer/Bottom Fridge converted to a Kegerator, you can rig a glycol system in the freezer (that's what I do).

Yes, I have a coil for the inside of the conical.

I really didn't want to make a glycol chiller, and was just planning on using ice in a cooler with a submersible pump.

I tried the ice bucket at first. You will go through a lot of ice unless your fermentation area is +/- 5 degrees of ferment temp.

I had the feeling that would be the case. I just don't have the funding to make or buy a unit at this time.

This is what I did for my chiller:

Poked holes in the side of the freezer after making sure no refigerant lines in the side (cut inside plastic first).

Installed bulkhead fittings.

Plastic tub on freezer bottom.
Repurposed and rebent immersion chiller snaked back and forth along the shelf.

Return from Conical goes to copper line, then dumps to tub.

Pump in tub, then out to conical.

Cost me a $5 plastic tub, $20 for a gallon of Glycol and reusing my immersion chiller for the copper, since I already had the hoses and pump and had some bulkhead fittings handy.

What do you use to control the pump (on/off)?

I have a small, 3.5 cubic foot, Igloo freezer for hops, and I wonder if I can drill 2 holes in the lid, and run tubing into a glycol mix. I would use a small sump pump in the reservoir and pump through the coil in my conical. The reservoir housing would have to be small though.

I bought the FTSS kit with my SS Brewtech Conical.

It's just a temp controller and pump. Any sort of temp controller like an Inkbird can work.
