Hello,
I built a 25 gallon 50A electric brewery following your excellent website instructions in 2014. I'm a big fan!

I was thinking about doing maple syrup for the first time this year with my young boys. We bought 10 taps and I think we should be able to find 10 trees around to tap in the next couple of months. My boil kettle is a 25 gallon Stout tank with two heating elements installed in it and controlled by a PID. I was thinking that I would plumb it onto one of my circulating pumps just like when I whirlpool at the end of a brew boil so that the sap is continuously in motion and less likely to caramelize. We would keep the sap in one of my fermentation refrigerators for a couple of days until we have 40 gallons and then start the boil off with 25 gallons and add more sap to the boil kettle continuously as the water boils off until we've added all 40 gallons. We'd keep boiling it down until we got to 3-4 gallons and then filter it and move it to a smaller stove top kettle for the finishing boil (219F).

What do you think? Crazy? Too expensive to do it this way? Thoughts?
Dave

I remember seeing on Instagram one of our customers using our equipment and control panel to also make maple syrup so it’s certainly possible. I ended up reposting the video in my feed but no idea when it was exactly I’m afraid (I just tried looking but I post too often). Wink I believe it was in the last 12 months, likely in the spring when sap is running. Feel free to take a look if you like: https://www.instagram.com/theelectricbrewery/

Good luck!

Kal

That's pretty close to exactly what I was thinking about doing - thanks!
