Anyone using the 50 AMP B2B with 5500 AMP elements or input on using the 4500 AMP elements does it take much longer to heat and boil?

I have a 50 amp BTB with 5500 elements and I have not encountered any issues.

I may be wrong but I think it is more about what your local code says. The system can run the elements but it might be illegal to do so.

How much longer depends on the volume.

The larger the volume, the longer it takes to heat up and get to boil. The more power you have, the faster you can heat water or wort. There are online calculators available that you can plug numbers into to see what sort of power you would require to heat in the amount of time you deem acceptable. Here are a few examples:

http://www.brewheads.com/powerrequired.php
http://www.brewheads.com/rise.php

Using the second link:

11000W of power would heat 3 bbl (93 gallons) at a rate of 0.77 degrees per minute, and 2 bbl (62 gallons) at a rate of 1.15 degrees per minute.
9000W of power would heat 3 bbl (93 gallons) at a rate of 0.63 degrees per minute, and 2 bbl (62 gallons) at a rate of 0.94 degrees per minute.

Assumes an insulated vessel.

Correct. It's a bit of a grey area so we provide some information in our build instructions just as a "heads up".
See our 50A build instructions for complete details.
