I am able to boil water in my basement brewery! Much more convenient then using the kitchen upstairs. I have a 2 gal kettle that is induction compatible and I will attempt a decoction at some point in the future.

you can use a 5 gallon pot on that too, I have one to do yeast starters with but it also will work for partial boils

On my list of things I want in the brewery. I debated on putting a small stove top, but after seeing a few of these on Amazon I think it's a better way to go.

Good point! I plan on buying a pot anyway. Wife keeps wondering where her pot goes when I make a yeast starter... and forget to bring it back upstairs. Very Happy

I am sure you know this but if a magnet sticks to the cookware it'll work on the induction burner.

Has to be a truly flat bottom too, correct?

yes the more surface the better but also remember the circle you see is the only area it heats and it can create burn spots in the pot just in the area

I have a cheap $40 Rosewill and its heat settings are limited but it does have a 1800w rating, the only issue with mine is the controls are too touchy, came with a cheap pan

I have a very similar setup and it works perfectly. I use it for making starter for my yeast as well as heating milk to make cheese.

For what it's worth, the induction cooktop I use is this one:

(I like it because it's not overly large)

With this 3.5 quart Induction Ready Stainless Steel Sauce Pan:

Mostly for starters.
