I have from time to time when i need to cut my brewday short. what i did was mashout to 168 then put all my sparge water in the MLT, recirculate for about 10 minutes then just dumped to the boil. beer was always good but i'm sure i lost some efficiency.

Yes I am. I tried fly sparging but didn't have the patience for it.
I get a consistent 87 to 88 mash efficiency. I am good with that. If I got wild swings I would do something different.
I step the MLT temp to 168. I want a starting boil volume of 14.5 gallons. I drain the MLT into the BK and determine how much more wort is need to reach 14.5 gal and divide that by 2. I batch sparge 2 times. It takes about 25 min to drain MLT, refill with half the remaining water needed, recirculation for 5 minutes, drain and repeat.

Interesting approach. May have to try that once but doesn't really sound like you are saving any time. Still takes you over an hour to batch sparge, if I'm understanding you correctly.
Drain the MLT approx 15 mins
First sparge 25 mins
Refill and recirulate 5 mins
Drain again 25 mins.
Total 70 mins.

Fly sparging will generally take longer than batch, but one thing I like about fly sparging it is that I don't have to be involved. Batch sparging is more labour since you have to re-vorlauf each time to let the runnings go clear, change hoses ~ 3 times, etc.

25 minutes total.
I haven't timed each individual step other than approx 5 minutes recirculation. Last time I brewed I looked the clock when I started draining the MLT the first time and then again when I was all done. Approx 25 minutes elasped. It doesn't take all that long to drain the MLT but I don't have the pump wide open so I don't compress the grain bed.
The way I move the hoses I never lose prime of the pumps so the physical moves works for me.
I tried fly sparging 3 separate times. I found it frustrating because I could never get the flow in and flow out to match exactly. I was always gaining or losing volume in the MLT. Besides that I found the waiting for the sparge to complete tough as I had nothing else to do to keep me busy.

Ok, that makes more sense. I mis understood you, my bad. Yes, 25 minutes is very fast. I may have to give it a try and see how my efficiency is affected.
