Going to be brewing on my Kal clone with 20G blichmann boilermakers for the first time in a couple weeks and was wondering what everyones beersmith equipment settings and BH efficiency are.

Thanks Mug

For what it's worth, I recommend ignoring any of those equipment settings and going with the steps in my BREW DAY STEP BY STEP instructions:

http://www.theelectricbrewery.com/brew-day-step-by-step

Mash efficiency will be the only unknown. Until you've used your setup a few times you don't know what it's going to be and odds are yours is not 100% clone with everything identical, not to mention your process will always be slightly different, especially at first. I'd recommend assuming an initial mash efficiency of around 85% and see what happens in your first brews.

Good luck!

Kal

Hi adroc,
Beersmith does it a bit differently. The estimated mash efficiency is not editable. It is a calculation by the program itself based off measurements you take and plug in during brew day such as pre-boil gravity, post-boil gravity, losses, etc.
In setting up your initial equipment profile, I'd recommend allowing for generous losses, then tweak from there.
FWIW, my BHE is at 78. Mash efficiency at 88. These numbers will not help you though. Everyones process is different.
My advice - shoot for consistent results, not high efficiency.
I'd rather have great tasting beer rather than high efficiency.
Milling your grain to flour dust and sucking every last bit of trub into your fermenter will get you high efficiency.

On a recirculating setup such as the one described on this website the above is not true. You'll have poor circulation and mash efficiency will suffer. For more info see my Grain Mill article: http://www.theelectricbrewery.com/grain-mill
