The outside with the semi-rough paint. I got mine from Spike Innovations. Everything I have used so far has left a residue; the blue cleaning pads, paper towels, and cotton cloths.

What do you use?

You should never have to clean it. If you do, I'd only use a soft lint free cloth and water. What are you trying to wash off?

I accidentally spilled some wort on it. I cleaned that with a wash cloth but it left a residue of lint. I cleaned that with a blue sponge but that left residue from the sponge. I will try out a microfiber cloth.
