Manual mode doesn't use the learning function as it's completely manual.
Make sure you're actually in manual mode. You can adjust the % while still being in automatic.
If the BOIL PID is programmed with the correct settings it will work in both AUTOMATIC and MANUAL modes.
Press the "A/M" button until the "A-M" light is on, meaning that the PID is in MANUAL mode.
Then press the UP/DOWN buttons on the Boil Element PID until the lower green SV number reads "M XXX". (where XXX is the percentage you want to run at).
If the "M" is not displayed press the SET button to switch the display mode.
At 50%, the ELEMENT ON light should be on for 1 second, off for 1 second, etc.
My assumption is that you're using the SYL-2352 PID as outlined in the build instructions here (and also used in our pre-built panels and panel kits).
