Hey guys,

I put together this temp controller for my boil kettle. Currently only doing extract brewing and was tired of boiling outside- especially in winter.

I am using a 10 gallon kettle with Kal's heating element kit (awesome).

I am going to add some transformers to get DC - as i have added back the fan that I had removed from the heatsink. It was a little warm, and once I had the fan on their it was cool to the touch.

Video of it in action

Here are some pictures during the build

Taping Heatsink Holes - I used some artic silver - works great

Looks great!
What enclosure is that? It looks like exactly what I'm looking for.

Got it at amazon.

Since this post I have added an alarm light/switch, as well as two switched outlets for pumps. I have also added the proper fuses.

Also added a 5v DC option to power the fan on the heatsink as well. Was a little tight but is working great.

The setup you made is really nice and is useful.
Also thanks for sharing this helpful information here.
I want to know the specifications of the PID you used.
Also please share the whole specifications of your device if you can.

Looks like an Auber PID. Most likely the same one we use in our control panel instructions:

http://www.theelectricbrewery.com/SYL-2352-PID-temperature-controller-1-16-DIN-size-SSR-output-85-264VAC-supply

Many different models of PIDs (from various manufacturers) will work. That's one of the nice things about using "black box" devices. They're easily swappable and do the same thing, and in the case of PIDs will be around for dozens of years because there are millions of them in use worldwide. There are different varieties of course (relay vs SSR output for example) and wiring pinouts may be different from one manufacturer to another.

Kal
