I used the hop spider for the first time yesterday and absolutely love it... not only did I not have any issues getting everything into the fermenter but cleanup was a LOT easier especially since I'm rinsing the pots in the yard when I clean up.

Here's a pic....

Batch #2 was the Bell's Two Hearted Clone which by the way is over ten bucks a six pack.... ANYWAY... I kegged it today (so it's not carbonated) and compared it to an authentic Bell's fresh from the bottle.... very impressive... Very Happy

....the brewery is coming together slowly but hey... it's coming together. I'm hoping to at least have my plumbing hooked up and having some kind of hood at least over the BK by late fall... Heating and AC will be nice but next goal is just to get out of the garage by winter.

That's beautiful. We occasionally entertain the notion of growing some hops but then remember that we both have black thumbs. Plus our house is on the north side of a hill.

Yup... they truly are beautiful plants... I'm going to grow a lot more next year since these are doing so well.

So after two years of being unused it appears my boil kettle temp controller is dead. I checked the obvious and have 120v going to 13 and the other PID's are working... is there a fuse in the PID that I need to check or something I'm overlooking before I buy another?

If you're still measuring 120V to the PID then it's probably a failed internal component. There are no fuses.
Unless you know how to do component level electronics triage and repair (not sure it's worth the time/effort for something like this), I'd suggest replacing it: https://shop.theelectricbrewery.com/collections/temperature-controllers/products/syl-2352-pid-temperature-controller

Cheers!

Kal

Thanks Kal! Already ordered... I figured it was fried. I still may brew this weekend but just switch the plugs around and use the HLT PID for the boil.... just depends if I can get my make shift hood working.

Nice setup!

And yes, you can definitely still brew. Redundancy was one of the goals around the design of this panel. No need to open the panel either.

All you need to do is swap the two sets of cables between BOIL and HLT to use the HLT PID for everything. The HLT 'Pb' temperature probe offset value will be used for the boil probe, but it's not overly critical that the boil measure the temperature precisely.

Thanks! We just moved here this past August so I'll be working on this as time permits... but in the meantime I think it should all work very well. I never knew how much I would like the sink with hot water! I had big plans in the other house but didn't ever finish the basement because deep down inside I knew I needed a bigger house so I only brewed in the garage with no sink; only a garden hose.

I replaced the PID for the BK and it works once again... I'll mount the pumps and counterflow wort chiller and will be brewing this weekend! I cannot wait!

Here's my temporary hood... I'm looking to get a hood from a project I'm working on but if that falls through I've got the name of a company that will make me one. This 55 gallon tub should work well in the meantime and allow me to make sure I get the 6" collar installed in the right place.

Yep! You can use just about anything for hood given that it's pretty much only steam. Happy brewing!

Everything is coming together... the Oktober can seamer is a game changer. People have always asked if they could try my beer but would always tell them that they needed to come by the house... not anymore. Ss Grain Mill is pretty sweet too... Santa has been good to me this year Very Happy

Nice, I'm wandering about your sink drain, are you pumping it up to the main drain or does it drain in the floor

I'm pumping it up since I really didn't want to cut the concrete so I bought one of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0038RK5C0/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&psc=1&linkCode=ll1&tag=theelectricbrewery-20&linkId=00e69833458f43dfb0169231ad6e8c59&language=en_US

Ha.. no kidding! I've canned about 200 beers this past month and they're nearly gone! Most common comment is "man... you can't buy this in store this good"... or "I don't like beer but this is GOOD!"

It's definately a very fun and rewarding hobby. Very Happy

It is a beast of a grain mill. I mounted it to the cart in the picture and will be putting it to the test when I brew a batch of the NEIPA tomorrow. I got very tired of using a drill with the barley crusher and when the wife saw me crushing grain she took pity told me I needed to do something about that so that justified my purchase. She didn't have to mention it more thanonce. Very Happy
