Switch out the Citra and go for Sorachi Ace. You will be amazed with the other 2 hops. And to let the hops shine, I would recommend 001 for the yeast. All in all, your recipe looks tasty.

The only thing i notice is that you said you were going to build a 1L starter. i think you should make it 2 (unless you dont have a stir plate, then it should be 4L)

Hops and malts look awesome.

The last 2 batches I did with 1L starters (using the White Labs pitchable tubes)... fermentation started within a couple of hours and the majority of bubbling finished in 3-4 days...

The beer will start fermenting quickly no matter what the quantity of yeast you pitch. Your beer will be better with the proper amount of yeast cells. You arent far off with 1L assuming your yeast is extremely viable.

Ive just seen improved flavor in my beer as ive gotten more and more specific about the amount of yeast that i pitch.

I was just looking over your hops schedule and i noticed that you threw in Chinook at the 30 minute mark - have you done that before with Chinook? I used Chinook as a bittering hop and wasnt a big fan of the flavor it contributed, even as a bittering hop.

Thanks Holter. I ended up using 1.5L according to Mr. Malty...

Today, I kegged my Black Pug IPA...

Brew schedule included a total of about 4 ounces of Centennial, Simcoe, Citra, Amarillo in the brew schedule plus an ounce each of Amarillo and Simcoe dry hopped each for week!

Here is my tasting sample before kegging...

This is also before I treated with gelatin... I'm curious to see how the gelatin will work as it will be my first time. Smile

I'd be curious about the gelatin as well. I bought a couple if packages of gelatin but have never used it. That beer looks and sounds awesome Kellzey - I am jealous! I just brewed an IPA last weekend so I've got a few weeks...

Black Pug IPA

Holy Crap this is the best IPA I've ever had. Arromatic... piney, citrusy, floral tastes and smells.

Still needs 4 more days on CO2 to get fully carbed, but OH MY GOD.

I updated the original post to reflect the final recipe!

Also, I didn't use the gelatin to clear, so it's still mildly cloudy and will settle out over time.

I'm going to repeat this recipe on Sunday. I have to make a couple of changes due to local ingredient availability.

British Crisp Pale malt instad of the Marris Otter

And White Labs Californa Ale or English Dry Ale instead of the Denny's Favorite...

Just kegged the repeat batch. I had to switch out yeasts and used White Labs California V for this one... otherwise all the same.

Smells divine!

Alright... I did the gelatin thing for the first time. First 1/2 pint came out dirty and the rest is nice and clear! Hooray.

Now just carbing her up and should be ready for New Years! Smile

Black Pug IPA 2.0 is once again, totally awesome! The gelatin cleared her up really nice. Pours a nice thick creamy head... great aroma... grapefruit, pine, fruity undertones. Nice mid-range IBU IPA.

I'm set until I float this keg again.

I'll probably rebrew my Porter again as everyone really likes it. But I'll leave out the coconut since it disipated after a month.

K
