The PID:s usually have functions for limiting the effect - check the manuals. You must use 3-phase elements for 400V. But besides three times higher effect 400V has one disadvantage - three times higher watt density than 3x230V although not a problem when only heating water (HLT).

You use the same element for 400V or 3 x 230V. You just wire the element in a different way for 400V.

Thanks!

Since I already bought and installed the elements on my pots, the 400V and 3 x 230v scenarios are out for me.

The limiting function for the SYL-2352 appears to be called 'OUTH' (manual: http://auberins.com/images/Manual/SYL-2352_manual.pdf).

However, isn't there an 'manual' way to do it?
The grainfather has a switch on the botton of the pot that allows you to set the element to 'mash mode', taking it from 2000W to 500W (page 7 on: http://media.wix.com/ugd/e8b8c7_823ea444edb1459bb82f610b74075a93.pdf)

They likely do that by lowering the voltage. You can do the same with a 240V element by running 120V across it instead of 240V. For example, a 5500W element meant to run at 240V only outputs 25% of that power when run at 120V. 400V elements would show similar drops by feeding them less voltage.

Hi Kal

I'm not an electrician (though will be using one for the build) and am embarking on sourcing all the parts for the Control Panel.

I couldn't see a single list (like pp196-197 of the manual) for 240V countries. The top of this forum lists the replacement parts but not necessarily which ones they replace for us non-electrical types.

Was hoping you could check over the attached replacement list I compiled and let me know of any errors so I that I a) don't miss anything and b) don't buy any parts I don't actually need!

Thanks

With the 100's of questions I get daily I'm afraid that sort of detailed verification is not something I have time for Norrii - sorry! The instructions in the first post of this thread will have a complete list of parts that need to be replaced - it's a 1:1 replacement of 120V parts with 240V parts so it should be fairly straightforward as the part names are identical other than the 120V to 240V change. Good luck with your build!

I just converted this to 240V and had no problems. Here's what I used:

This may seem a silly question (but I'm a dunce where electrics are concerned). If I'm not going to need volt and amp meters, do I still need a 'shunt'?

Thanks

If you do not use the amp meter, a shunt is not required. As far as wiring changes are concerned, treat shunt like a single connection point where all wires are connected together, so if you get rid of it, the power in simply now connects to wherever the shunt power out goes.

Welcome to the forum!

That's great, Kal, thanks for the quick response. I'll now start drawing-up the plans for a brew panel customised to fit my set-up.

Cheers

Hi, In the panel I'm making for myself I will only be using one element and won't need the switching between 'boil' and 'hlt'. With this in mind, will I still require a Relay between the (single) SSR and the element outlet receptacle, or can the SSR be wired 'direct' to the element outlet receptacle? I will still be using a 'power in' relay and key switch.

Thanks

I would still recommend using a physical relay for the reasons documented in the "How it works" section here:

http://www.theelectricbrewery.com/control-panel-part-2?page=13

Good luck!

Hi, As I won't be needing the AMP/Volt meters and have subsequently removed the shunt, do I still need the in-line 7A/250v fuse (ie: is it specific for use with the shunt or generic to the whole system)? Thanks

While it is technically never "required", it is still recommended that the fuse be used as it protects the other lower current devices (PIDs, timer, etc).

Hi Kal, any issue with using the Blichmann 20gal w boil coil (220vac, 5000w) in this setup? Any changes required in the control box? Thanks

Hi Kal,

I have some questions about de 30A/240V DPDT or DPST relay with 220V AC coil:
- Can I to substitute Power Relay for other contactor like Contactor Tripolar 32a 3p+1nf (http://produto.mercadolivre.com.br/MLB-719993068-contator-tripolar-32a-3p1nf-lc1d-3201-bobina-220v-_JM) - Coil 220v?

If de answer to question indicates that sustitute, cold pass the eletric build for this.

Thanks

I really don't know as I don't speak Portuguese and the web page you linked to has very little information on the product.
If you're finding it hard to find parts or are unsure how to know if substitutions would work, we can sell you the parts you need, guaranteed to work for you. Entire kits made for 220-240V countries are available as well. Contact us at sales@TheElectricBrewery.com or see our control panel order page here: https://shop.theelectricbrewery.com/collections/control-panels

Good luck and welcome to the forum!

Kal
