OK, anyone got some advice on re-sizing pic's for this forum? And please don't tell me to buy some fancy software!

There are hundreds of free picture resizers available. Your camera most likely came with something. You may already have something on your PC too.
Otherwise Google "free picture resizer".
Or you can do it online for free. Example: http://www.picresize.com/

I prefer irfan view. You can batch resize all photos in a folder. For picture work, I use paint.net.
