I like it. Nice work Mike.
By putting the end bends at the end opposite the valves it solves the problem that Mike was having with making a sharp 90 degree turn to come out of the kettle. The turn had to be sharp to avoid having the coil too far into the kettle. With the final turns at the opposite ends you can use more gradual bends.
The 17.7" measurement in the picture above is the diameter of a Blichmann 20 gallon sidewall. So the pic gives you an idea on how the coil sits in a standard 20 gallon Blichmann kettle.

Kal, Mike - I noticed that Kal's original coil was about 7'' tall. Will the extra 1.5'' extra height have any negative impact on the system, especially when brewing a 5gal batch?

No.
You should simply ensure that you put enough water in the HLT such that the coil remains 100% submerged after you've already transferred over your strike water. I usually fill my HLT right up to the 19/20 gallon mark (the top of the sight gauge) just because one campden tablet is the exact right amount to remove the chloramine in 20 gallons of water.
This also makes sure that when I'm mashing my entire coil is submerged.
I also question the 8.5" value. I just re-measured mine and it's 7.5". My coil's slightly smaller diameter and looser than Mike's here (since I did it by hand so it's not perfect) so if anything his should be less high than mine.

I placed an order today, have not received confirmation yet. I can update on an approximate time frame as soon as I hear. Original quote time was 1-5 weeks based on quantity, and the quantity I ordered was on the smaller side.
I'm hoping 2-3 weeks but I cannot make any promises until I hear from the manufacturer.

General Update:
The manufacturer has the SS Tubing on order, and unfortunately the mill will not be making any for approximately 3 weeks. In the meantime they will be doing the engineering and tooling for me, and sending me out a sample.
I can only guess at this point but we might be looking at 5-6 weeks before these would be ready to ship.
I will keep you updated as I find out more.
Mike

Mike,
Have you decided if the compression fittings will be included or not? About to place an order at McMaster-Carr....

So I got home today and I had a surprise sitting for me on the porch. My manufacturer shipped me the prototype without me knowing!
I'll let the pictures do it justice:
The coil is moveable/shape-able to an extent (the ends can be completely parallel). The last pic is just it placed inside a 20 Gal Boilermaker.
It is 304 SS, roughly 15.5" OD, and a height of 7" completely compressed.
I will be going through pricing the next few days and we might be able to begin pre-orders. Probably still another 3 weeks out before they are in stock however.
Mike
