That drawer slide is a great idea. If I don't like our pump setup once we get up and running I may just have to copy that!

I used the drawer slide idea under my pumps.. if you use a ball bearing slide you can lay them sideways and install them under the plywood pump "board" and they are out of site. i used the same idea on my sound system cabinet under my turntable and amplifier.. you can pull out the turntable for easier loading and unloading and the amplifier pulls out for easier access to all the wires.

turning the drawer slides on their sides and putting them underneath gets the out of site and eliminates having to build side brackets.

Well, new addition to the brewery, Scored a THERMOLYNE Nuova II Stir Plate Stirrer for $58 delivered. I spent some time taking it apart disabling the heat function sanding it and painting it to match the Control Panel. Came out pretty cool, check it out.

I had an issue with the green one and they sent me a new impeller and seal as well as the trust washer and everything was working fine. Last brew the other pump gave me a problem but I've not looked at the cause yet. their service is great. The 2nd generation (black motor) I bought from them is flawless. They have a 3rd generation with improvements but are sold out again. I've never had a march so don't know of any differences. Hope this helps, Castermmt

That looks amazing. I have a stir plate that has a rusty surface and I want to repaint it as well. What type of paint did you use for the surface plate?

Thanks-
Holter

My plate had a porcelain coating so I used this product- Rust-Oleum Specialty Brush Bottle Appliance Touch Up, White. It came in a two part epoxy and made about .75 of an once when mixed together. I bought it a big box home repair store called "Menard's". Cost about $6. Hope this helps, Castermmt

That helps. I want to get that shiny enamel look that it once had. Yours seems to have it. Thanks for the help!

What do you use the Stir Plate for. You really did a nice job fixing it up.

Found another THERMOLYNE Nuova II Stir Plate Stirrer for $55 delivered. it was in worst shape then the first one so I had to take to work and have it sand blasted. Came out great. It didn't have a heating functions so only one control knob. I really like the power of the magnets on these things, all I need to do to align them is put the flask on the 7" x 7" plate and the magnets draws the stir bar to the center., very cool. It looks like a "mini me" stir plate, but they are the same size.

First of all, love the refurbished stirplate! I have a few questions:

You state that the power of the magnets is great, but what about power of the vortex? How much agitation on a 2L flast that is full? I see it is a 7"x7" surface; is there anything stopping you from putting a 5L flask on top? (I'd guess my 5L to be about 9.5" wide.) Have you tried spinning up a 5L flask?

Sorry for the barrage of questions, my DIY plate is great for full 2L starters but leaves some agitation to be desired with the 5L flask.

You could do a 5L flask, no problem. I don't own one but there is no reason it wouldn't work. The 7x7 non-moving platform is even with the frame just to the right of it which I can see adding support to the flask. I'll test it out with a 5 gallon Carboy some time to see if can spin it. Hope this helps, Castermmt
