I just brewed a belgian IPA that was designed to produce an ABV around 7.2 and OG of 1.072. I Ended up with an OG of 1.094. I used a stepped mash with dough in at 140 and 60 min rest at 150 for mashing and another for 25 min at 160 then to mash out at 168. I think this step mash was what produced the high OG. Would all agree? Wort looks and smells great! In the end I have more of an Imperial belgian IPA (if there is such as thing). System was great with a 94.5% efficiency. My predicted SRM was to be 12.9 but the beer appears much darker (a deep amber that reminds me of the color of an Irish setter). Is there a colored chart for SRM or something to measure it with?

Recipe:
30lb Rehr pale malt
4lb Belgian Caravienne
Citra Hops 2 oz at 60, 20 and 5 min
Amarillo 3 oz at flame out and sit 15 min and then counterflow chill to fermenter
Ferment with Strong Belgian Ale yeast (Wyeast 1388)

Which application did you use to create this recipe? When I put it into BeerSmith 2 with my baseline 90% efficiency, I'm getting 25.9 plato (~ 1.111 SG).

Did you mean to put in 20#s instead of 30?

I used beer tools. I think the problem is that this was my second brew on this system and my efficiency came out at 94.76 and I believe it was defaulted at 75 or 76%. Do you think that is the explanation as apposed to the mash schedule?
