I have been using my built from kit 50 amp back to back brewery for about 7-8 years now. I haven't had any major issues until yesterday. I haven't brewed in roughly a year but I don't think that should have any effect. Yesterday when I went to fire up the boil kettle the element would not turn on. The pid lights indicated the element should be on but the element light would not turn on. Interesting when I unplugged the cable to the element the light would turn on. I ended up using the hlt outlet to plug the boil kettle in and was able to boil in that fashion, so I was able to finish my brewing luckily. It was also strange that I could not get the hlt pid to work in the manual mode even after reprogramming but was able to cheat temps to keep boiling.
I don't know where to look, there are no loose connections, no hot wires, and using infrared when it was operating no apparent hot connections or wires.

Any ideas what I should be looking for or has any one else had similar issues?

Thanks for all help.

Jule

Now I feel really stupid.. I played more with the pid and it is working. I wish I knew what it was for sure but I think I'm good until next brew day.

While it's working now, I figured I'd comment anyway, for future troubleshooting:

Make sure the ELEMENT SELECT switch was also turned to the "BOIL" position.

If problems reoccur, you can troubleshoot them with this guide:

Normal. Read here for why:

That is odd. Are you sure you used the right settings?

Cheers!
