I built a grain grinder platform for my new brewery build. I put the cart on casters and modified the cart a bit. Here are the parts I used:

- Barley Crusher two roller grain mill - $100
- Harbor Freight small tool cart - $50
- Harbor Freight heavy duty low speed drill - $55
- HVAC rectangle duct - collects grain from Barley Crusher and funnels it through grain bag into bucket
- Grain bag - zip tied to air duct to direct grain into bucket
- Outdoor power box
- 120 volt switch and outlet combo
- 20' power cable
- Paint
- Casters and scrap wood

This picture shows the drill and Barley Crusher mounted to the top of the table, the power outlet attached to the table, and the table attached to a piece of wood with casters mounted underneath. I may commission my wife to sew a skirt to go around the bottom to keep the grain dust contained.

Here is a video of the grain mill in operation: https://youtu.be/OfbNLmb70Zs

I have since added a new feature - pantyhose! I tied off one leg and cut it off after the knot, cut half the leg off the other - pull the waist down over the bucket and the other leg up over the vent cowl - now there is no more dust flying everywhere! HUGE upgrade + you get to play with pantyhose...

This looks awesome; anything you'd change in hindsight? Probably my next project!

Heavy Duty 1/2" I liked it because it can turn at very low speeds without getting hung up - has a flat top with bolt receiver in it for mounting upside down to the table. The table is also from harbor freight. i cut a piece of wood and put casters on it to move the drill around easily. I then painted it all to match. Underneath is a floor vent that the grain falls through - with a steeping bag attached with the bottom cut out to get the grain down in the bucket. I then took a pari of pantyhose, tied one leg off, put the waist around the bucket and the other leg over the vent cowl - the result is no dust whatsoever.

The closest one looks like this one from harbor freight: https://www.harborfreight.com/power-tools/electric-drills/12-in-heavy-duty-spade-handle-drill-63116.html

It has the bolt receiver on the top and variable speed dial on the trigger and is reversible - just remove the D handle on the back.. The two you posted don't have those features and may be hard to mount and control.

This is the work table: https://www.harborfreight.com/adjustable-height-heavy-duty-workstation-46725.html?&utm_medium=social&utm_source=Facebook&utm_campaign=portstands-032515&cid=mesocial_sfacebook_cportstands-032515

I removed the top tray, but left three of the four horizontal supports so I could easily get a bucket in and out of there. I then mounted an electrical box with a power switch and a 20' extension cord with the female end cut off and spliced into the box to provide always on power to the outlet.

This one shows the pantyhose hookup:

I have the same drill and mill I love them both, the drill is especially great, its high torque and variable with a knob so you can change the speed on the fly

Awesome; I have the barley crusher but am presently using my DeWalt 20V cordless by hand to rotate the rollers...what a PITA considering I have to let go of it to add more grain to the hopper and then it's all off balance...just horrible!

This looks like a great solution and I'll be acquiring parts to implement shortly! Looks awesome and I especially love the low-tech panty hose solution as I will be crushing in my garage next to the brewery and this will certainly keep that dust down.

Is the base of this just some plywood with casters? Did you affix them in anyway or does the table just sit on it?

You mean always on power so long as the other end of the extension cord is plugged into the wall? Good idea here as well.

I'll post pics when I start.

jphussy - yes - as long as the extension cord is plugged in - the outlet on the box is live - the drill only turns on when the switch is turned on.

jcav - thanks!

Those look like 7 gallon buckets. Is that accurate? I find a 5 Gallon bucket won't hold all the grain for one medium-high gravity brew.

Did you somehow fix the table to the plywood on the bottom? Or does it just stand on it ?

Also, is the small wood base at the bottom of the grain mill the stock wood base just cut down? Did you leave the two bolts on the underside intact? I assume your hole you cut was essentially the size of the rectangular duct?

JP - the stand sits on a piece of plywood that I mounted wheels to - the stand came with plastic skidproof feet - I screwed those feet to the plywood. The small bit of 1/4” plywood around the base of the mill was used to get it a bit higher to meet the drill chuck perfectly. Yes left the bollta and bolted to the table - the hole cut in the top is roughly the size of the duct. Painted everything grey to match.
