|
|
Hey guys,
I'm wondering how you deal with the residual water/wort in the tubing when changing the quick disconnects from one connect to the other. I did a test run and found that every time I disconnected a tube from one connection there would be a lot of excess fluid in it that would leak out before I could connect it to the next connection.
Also, when I'm disconnecting the lines from the pumps for cleaning a lot of residual water poured out onto the floor. I suspect I'm doing something wrong and possibly missing something simple. Any help is appreciated.

Use a small bowl or similar to catch anything. Problem solved!

And it lives under the table when not in use.

Thanks guys. That's exactly what I'm going to do. I ran a test run with just water yesterday. First brew with the new brewery is Monday. I'll get some pictures of the brewery soon. I had to move a portion of my basement wall so I still have some trim to put back up. After that I'll show the goods.

I usually crimp the tubes with my hand just a bit back from the disconnect. That keeps water/wort from draining out of the entire tube. There's a small amount that drips, no way of avoiding that. If you are seeing a lot, maybe that would help?

When I disconnect hoses, especially in certain steps near the end when many hoses need disconnecting, I'll open open the bottom most one last and let the whole thing drain into a bowl across multiple hoses.
For example, after sparging is done and I want to disconnect all of the water hoses in the pic below, I'll first disconnect the water hose from the MLT IN and just connect it to HLT IN temporarily. A few drips, no big deal. Then I disconnect the water hose from HLT OUT and put that end in a bowl lower than the pumps, and open all valves. The entire HERMS coil and all 3 hoses then empty into the bowl. There's a bit of water left in the pump head after, but that's why I have them on an unfixed stand: I just tilt it forward and dump into a bowl.
