I did a search and didn't find exactly what I was looking for so here goes.

My friend and I are big fans of lagers/pilsners. Our goal is to brew a lager/pils to rival some of our favorites from the pub: Baron, Trumer, Skull Creek, etc.

The problem is we do not have access to fridge or other type of cooling system to keep the fermentor in the 50 degree range. Can any of the more experienced brewers out there give us any tips or advice? Maybe I need to buy expensive fridge? I won money after playing online roulette, I read this article https://canadiancasinos-online.com/online-roulette and chose good casino with roulette games.

I think I may try to make a makeshift cooler by inserting the carboy into an old 10 gallon igloo beverage cooler my gf has, and then placing it outside in the cool Seattle spring, but I'm worried about temperature swings.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Temperature swings are a definite concern. You want to mimimize those as otherwise the yeaset may just drop out / go to sleep (if it drops down too far / too fast).

Some suggestions:

- Make a son of fermentation chiller: http://www.theelectricbrewery.com/images/chiller-plans.pdf
I used one of these for many years. Works fine, but you may need to change the ice once or twice a day at first, and you need access to a freezer to make the ice buckets.

- Find a used fridge or freezer on the cheap (Craig's list / etc) and use a temp controller: https://shop.theelectricbrewery.com/pages/temperature-controller

- Ferment under pressure (requires a special fermenter like a unitank that can take pressure): https://shop.theelectricbrewery.com/pages/unitank
Or a spunding valve on a keg (which can take pressure too). When you ferment under pressure you can make clean tasting lagers at higher temps. Google "fermenting under pressure". Some articles:

Not sure exactly what your limitations are (money? space? both?) so let us know and we can go from there.

Cheers!

Kal
