Just managed to get my beer engine hooked up to my corny keg and it is working perfectly. Lightly carbed using CO2 and permanently connected to the Co2 tank to prevent oxidation. Very easy setup and it works a treat. No need for beer gas.
These pics show it in action with my recently brewed Timothy Taylor Landlord... a classic British ESB.

I have it set at about 5psi. Looking at about 1.79 vols CO2. I have my fridge set at 41f (5C). The beer (an English ESB) is supposed to be served at 10degC. However, I live in Thailand and due to the heat I have knocked the temp down to 5degC as at 10C it just gets too warm too quick.
Carb range for serving through a beer engine should be around 1.5 to 1.8 vols of CO2. You also need to buy 2 extra bits of kit to allow it to work with a corny. You need a check valve (non return valve) and a demand valve. They are both very cheap.... far cheaper than a beer gas setup approx $30 total.

I have a demand valve, but have usually just had a cask in the garage that is spiled as needed but with a breather.

So are you pulling O2 into the cask or have you hooked it up to CO2 with an aspirator? The reason I set it up the way I have is to prevent the beer from spoiling due to pulling O2 into the keg. I dont drink the beer quick enough to use a normal cask / breather set up.
