I am looking to upgrade my keggle to a 20g boil kettle. I brew 6 gallon and 12 gallon batches (8 and 14g preboil) so my question is would a 20g kettle be over kill on a 6g batch? Yes, I do know that more beer is better but I like variety. When I do 12g batches its either a beer that goes fast or when brewing for a friend as well.

Im really tired of the boil over potential when doing 12g batches in my keggle.

While it would depend on the exact kettle dimensions, if you use these you can boil 6 gallons just fine as the heating element is still covered:

Making sure the element is still covered is really the only concern in the boil kettle.

Cheers!

Depends on a lot of factors but I brew 5.5 gallon batches from time to time in my 23 gallon kettle.
