I'm wiring up an outlet box for a 50 amp Control Panel. With #6/3 conductors, I need a 4" deep box but can't seem to find one at the big box stores. Tried using an extension (see pic) but it's too flimsy and I'm uncomfortable using it with a 240 v plug. Any suggestions?

Install the receptacle the other way around. You're allowed to do this (it's to NEC code), as there's actually no "standard" or "correct" orientation for receptacles.

So that the plug is facing downward which allow straight terminations- got it.

Went with the surface mount option for my specific situation with mounting to a concrete wall. Clean, compact install. It allows for a front facing plugin and avoids having to make a conduit offset to mount to the wall.
