|
|
I'm brewing a new batch Friday.
Bitter JO has nothing to do with the style, it's an IIPA, not a bitter.
Name comes from when I was a JO (Junior Officer) in the Navy, the year I was up for promotion, I was 7 months into an 11 month deployment, when they basically shot my promotion group in the face, and 75% of us got forced out, but because they got rid of too many pilots, they forced us to stay on as reservists.
We were JOs, and we were bitter. And then our deployment got extended to 11 months.
I told my friend I wanted Death By Hops in a bottle.
This is the hops measured out.

Usually finishes in the 1.017-022 range.
Have made it five times. Usually once a year.

Missed my OG target by .012
Process hasn't changed on the mash side. Sparge was just at over and hour with 1.010 SG Final Runnings.
Pre boil SG was low. Last two batches have been "off".. I'm wondering if the new helper at the LHBS isn't measuring out the grain well. I didn't throw the bag on the scale when I got home, I just crushed it and mashed in.
Before I was always hitting it within .002, which for my operation is close enough.
Hop Stopper 2.0 did exactly that. Drained to within a half pint of dead empty, and no hop material I could see made it to the fermentor.

HopStopper
This was with 16 ounces of pellet hops in a 6 gallon (in fermentor) batch.
Yes, the recipie shows less, but they are hops that have been in cold storage since 2010-14, so I had to up the amounts for the same AAU in the boil.
