I was wondering how you get down to your steeping temperature? And if the time getting to your steep temp is important? I've not done many hop stands at a lower temp but I just brewed a version of your Hop Stand Pale Ale http://maltwaterbrewing.com/2018/10/28/pale-rider-hopped-pale-ale-5/. But I did not chill the boil to get the temp down so it took a long time. Hence I suspect I was getting bitterness from the hops I put in at the end of the boil (the beer is way more bitter than I wanted). Look at the pics above it looks like you have a chiller you place in the boil, is that right?

Hi!

Depends on the beer/recipe. Sometimes you want to steep right after the boil at boil temps, other times not.
My Hop Candy NEIPA is an example where I want to bring the temp down quickly and then steep at 180F: http://www.theelectricbrewery.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=30768

Take a look at that recipe in the 'Process' section for how I do it and the equipment I use. Good luck!

Thanks. I think I pulled more bitterness than I wanted by not cooling the wort fast enough when I brewed my version of your Hop Stand. I'm going to brew it again and cool it faster. I just purchased an emersion chiller. I'm also planning to brew your Hop Candy recipe in the next week or so. Thanks

My Hop Stand Pale Ale is a fairly bitter beer, or should I say it has a lot of hop flavour balanced by bitterness. I also didn't chill first if you check out my recipe/process: http://www.theelectricbrewery.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=26503

I do prefer my New England style Electric Hop Candy Jr more however - but that's a personal choice.

Cheers!
