I've got a 120v motor I've been using with my grain mill for about 5 years or so. On this past Saturday I flipped the switch to turn it on and nothing moved, just a hum noise. I took it apart and oiled everything. The bearings seemed to spin freely even before I oiled everything. Next I moved over to the start capacitor. I ordered one online and hooked it up over lunch today. Still nothing but a hum.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Yeah, I watched that video and a few others. I think I'm going to just go buy a cheap Harbor Freight motor to get me up and running again.

So, I decided to take the motor apart again. Figured out the problem. There is a spring washer in the rear cover plate where the bearing goes. It was pinched in there, causing the motor shaft to be stuck. Fixed that, put it together and now it works good as new. Always feels good to fix something yourself. I believe the main issue was the capacitor. The first time I took it apart to clean everything I must of got that spring is there sideways. I do remember having to pound on the rear cover.

always helps to fix not trash and rebuy, it's a good feeling and you learn a little more, honestly we are a trashy society, we have fallen into the plastic wormhole trap manufactures have set for us

I agree 100%. My grandfather used to fix everything, no mater what it was or even worth. I like to think some of that rubbed off onto me. Drives my wife crazy sometimes though. When something breaks and I keep it for parts...lol
