Has anyone successfully cold crashed their conical (spike cf15) with 10 gallon batch down to cold crash temps using just a water/glycol resevoir in a mini-fridge? I think that the heat transfer will warm the cooling source up to much after it passes through the beer continuously.

Has anyone had success doing this? By rotating cold buckets from a different fridge, adding ice packs, bottles ETC?
Have 2 weeks to figure out how to get cold crashing temps so that I can carbonate in keg...

I don't think it would work very well using a refrigerator - the videos I've seen use a freezer at low temperatures.

If you're trying to save some money I definitely recommend using an old (but working) AC unit and cooler to build your own glycol chiller. I finished mine about a month ago and it rocks.

For what it's worth, I suggest a simplified approach: Only cold crash once you're in the keg on CO2. That's what I do.

Cold crash in the keg, when you start to carbonate?

Was hoping to be able to carbonate and crash in fermenter, but I dont think that will be able to hapen with 30 degree resevoir temps in fridge.

Correct.

You can certainly do that, and that's one of the benefit of a unitank, but if you don't have the means to do it simply you have to ask what are you really simplifying? Completely up to you of course.

you probably don't have a fridge big enough but for small batches this works

Yeah my cf15 is a BIG conical. Even without the leg extensions, I dont think it would fit in a normal fridge. I will just crash/carb in keg, and save up for a 1/2HP penguin glycol chiller next. Then I can fully take advantage of what all my unitank can do.
