I know there’s one that works somewhere, but I’m having no luck finding one today. Basically, I’m trying to find a calculator that can help me back calculate how much grain I can use with a smaller mash tun. I’ve got a home setup that’s running kegs for the HLT and BK, but my mash tun is only a 6.5 gal / 25L pot - the limiting factor on the setup for now.

Is there a way to figure out how much grain I should be using other than trial & error?

And yes, eventually, I’ll upgrade the mash tun size as well, but this’ll be my first all grain (sparged) batch on the new electric system. Baby steps.

Google "can I mash it?" for lots of options to calculate this.

Cheers!

Yeah, they sort of got the job done... what I ended up looking for was your Strike water calculation in the brew day post on the main site:

Strike water = (Mash Thickness * Pounds of Grain / 4) + dead space under false bottom + liquid in hoses = (1.5 * 18 / 4) + 0.22 + 0.5 = 7.47 gallons

Then just doing some basic algebra to it.

Thanks Kal
