The story so far.

First of all, I would like to thank Kal for the excellent site and the inspiration he has given for me to start this project.

Admission, I am a complete novice, and other than brewing in buckets with kits years ago, have little experience, but willing to learn, but one thing for sure, I love beer...

So I decided on building a brew room about 3 years ago, and was all set to buy a Speidel Braumeister, when I happened to land on Kal,s site by accident looking for something else. I was intrigued, so had a look around the site. Within 20 minutes I was sold on the Electric Brewery.

The most obvious space for the brew room was the garage, which like most garages in the UK was full of 'stuff'. I had hot and cold water supply in there but no waste, and the only sensible option was to go through the kitchen to reach a waste connection. This meant I had to wait a while until we bought a new kitchen, which was planned (but brought forward a little) Once the waste was in, there was no excuse.

Started by emptying everything out of the garage. Here are some photos.

So decided to go for a tiled floor. Problem was, the floor had been painted years ago to seal the concrete. The tiles may have become unstable on the flakey paint, so had to come up. Not a nice job.

I went for the Blichmann G2 20gal kettles which were available to buy in the UK, although they had to be be ordered, so took a while to arrive. I took Kal's advice and changed out the variable flow valves for the 3 piece ball valves on the outlets.

Bit nervous punching out the holes, but all went well

I bought the control panel as a DIY version, as there was no pre-built option for the UK.

After a great deal of thought, I decided to get the panel professionally assembled and tested for various reasons. I have very little electrical experience, would have to buy various tools and a tester, would have taken me ages.

I know a couple of electricians who have done work for me, and enquired if they were interested, but both declined.Horses for courses I suppose. Chose a local electrician experienced in panels after a web search. Very happy with the result and it looks neat and tidy inside (to me anyway)

Hi Codex,

First, looking amazing so far, can't wait to see how it turns out once its all complete Smile. I'm just starting my electric brewery journey myself so I've been stalking these forums for a while now.

I'm just wondering where you managed to get your canopy/hood made? I'm looking to fit out my brewing area with one in the future. Did you need to do any drawings etc. or just let the fabricator know the approximate dimensions/etc?

Cheers!

Hi Steaky360,

Thanks for the comments. I am nearing completion of the hot side, so planning a first brew in the next few days.

The canopy, I just provided the fabricator with a rough hand sketch, same with the tables. He has made these before, so there were no issues.

Where are you located? I can send a contact number for the fabrication shop

Cheers
