Hopefully a legit question

It would make sense to me buy who knows. I brew 5 gal. Batches and everything here is geared towards 10 gals. So the question is do I cut all ingredients in half ?? Or is there a different formula ? Thanks guys.

According to Gordon Strong, on the homebrew scale, batch scaling is linear. Simply change the quantity of ingredients by percentage difference. If you want to make a 5 gallon batch from a 10 gallon recipe, cut in ingredients by half. I use the scaling function in the BeerSmith 2 software to scale my recipes and double-check scaled quantities. If scaling results in any unusual quantities, round the results for easier measuring.

You would look at the recipes you want to brew and look for the percentages, which Kal includes the percentages in his recipes and scale your ingredients as percentages. This is best done using brewing software once you have you brew house efficiency setup, you can be tweak the recipe to match the desired SRM, ABV and IBU's to better match the recipes being used. +1 to all of the above! All software will do this scaling for you. It's usually as simple as changing the final amount of wort you're making and the software will adjust quantities for you. Good luck!
