Yup. Just outside Chicago. We've actually got a couple guys on the job that brew. Its like firefighters and beer go good together or something.

Sweet. I took the Elgin test in 2009(?). Did well on your list but nobody was hiring due to the economy crash in 08 - was lucky enough to get on at Lincolnwood and kept testing. Palatine was great.
No, not working right now. Decided to pursue brewing and be my own boss, so I'm working on opening a brewery.

A few aviation industry folks - I live near Wright-Patterson AFB so that may explain the number of techies in my club.

I’m ex-Navy (3-years as HT), welder/ maintenance mechanic in the Steel industry for over 30 years. Presently Union Health & Safety coordinator representing United Steelworkers members working for the largest steel company in the U.S.A. The build and the control of the process is why I’m an Electric brewer and a supporter of this site.
I was born and raised on the South side of Chicago, now living 32 miles Southeast in Lowell, Indiana. FYI- I’ve noticed most brewers I know are technical people as well.

Yeah, the recession just killed hiring for two reasons: everyone put hiring freezes in effect (or started laying off), and the guys that normally would be leaving stayed because they lost their butts in their retirement accounts.
But enough of the depressing stuff! Best of luck on your brewery! Idaho is absolutely beautiful country and a great place to set up shop. My wife and I are in the beginning stages of designing and opening a nanobrewery ourselves. Building our electric brewery is the first step and we are very excited, although our scenery won't be quite as nice as yours.

My mother in law lives in Fort Walton, we make our way down there about once a year. Actually we'll be there this Sep. Love the beaches down there.

Software Engineer/Developer - waiting for the inevitable "you're 50 and make too much. We can hire 2 inexperienced devs for what we pay you". About half the time the dev gets a callback in a year

Currently FAA maintenance inspector for my day job. 7 years active duty Air Force F-16 crew chief. 13 years in the reserves and about to in process at Robins AFB in GA for an IMA position. I'll be writing maintenance policy.
I finished my bachelors in aeronautics through Embry-Riddle earlier this year and starting a masters in human factors with a minor in systems engineering this January.

That's cool David. When I retire I wouldn't mind getting into DAR work but that's an easy 20 years from now. I have oversight of a DAR in my office and he makes it a full time job.
