I think this is pretty cool but not sure I can fork over $200 each year. The only warranty it for 6 months and say it will last about a year.

For a couple of reasons. First it would be documented data and saved. I would also like to try to suspend it in the mash to get live readings. I'm guessing I would have to do that with the lid off.

Probably not. I use one of these hydrometers with my stainless steel conical and the Bluetooth works just fine if you are with 6ft: https://tilthydrometer.com/
