I think this is pretty cool but not sure I can fork over $200 each year. The only warranty it for 6 months and say it will last about a year.

Agreed.

Why does it need to be wireless? What advantage does that give? It's only short range Bluetooth.

For a couple of reasons. First it would be documented data and saved. I would also like to try to suspend it in the mash to get live readings. I'm guessing I would have to do that with the lid off.

Probably not. I use one of these hydrometers with my stainless steel conical and the Bluetooth works just fine if you are with 6ft: https://tilthydrometer.com/

I guess I still don't see the value. I document my mash pH value with a pen in my notebook. Wink The mash pH doesn't change much over time, only a few hundredths (usually up). I don't both measuring at the end of the mash anymore.
