|

This is the first time I have used a stainless fermenter and as you can see from the pic there is a black ring from where the krusen has been.
Anybody have any idea what this could be? I cleaned the fermenter with icicle an and then passivated with starsan. Maybe I did something wrong with the cleaning procedure.
The beer I brewed is kals session able pale so I don't think any of the ingredients could be a contributing factor. Also the beer tastes great no odd flavours.
Thanks Joe

Yeah tastes great which is reassuring but still strange not knowing what caused it.
Sorry that should have read oxiclean. iPhone autocorrect causing confusion as usual.

I have seen that on a couple of my brews in my Blichmann fermenter: Mainly the very hoppy IPA's.
It comes off very easily with a scotch pad and warm water so hasn't concerned me too much..

Same here in my stainless conicals too.
From tan, light brown, to black.
I have never had an issue with the batch though!

Third...or fourth for the black ring. Just did Kal's Sessionable IPA and noticed a bit of black in my SS Brewtech Chronicles. Beer was fantastic. That came right off.

Had the same thing with my first brew on my new brutus 10. Was brewing Brew Dog's Peroxide Punk from the DIY Dog.
Was extremely relieved when I discovered this thread.
As has been said already - no off flavours, just damn tasty beer.

I've had light to dark brown rings on my SS Brewtech fermenters. Maybe it needs to be cleaned more. I've heard of people reporting black residue in their SS fermenters because of improper cleaning. I would have to get the instructions again, but SS Brewtech recommends cleaning/soaking with TSP and then passivating with StarSan.
