Anyone do this? I like to throw some flaked corn in my saison recipe, and ever since going HERMS (which I love), I have trouble with my mash getting sticky.
I'm brewing with a substantial amount of flaked oats tomorrow (11% of grist). I'm planning on a rest at 110 for 20 minutes or so with the oats prior to adding rest of the grist and strike water and raising to 150. Wondering if anyone has tried this, and what your experience has been.
Cheers!

To anyone interested, I did a beta glucan rest with 3 lb of flaked oats and 3 gallons of strike water for 30 minutes. I'm not sure if it was necessary or not, but the mash flowed easily after this. Yeah it added some time to the brew day, but not as much time (and angst) as a stuck mash. I think I will play it safe and keep doing these when I use 10% or more flaked corn or oats. Cheers.
