I'm brewing a sweet stout and planning on using .65 lbs lactose which will be about 5.9%. I've read that it's recommended to use from 5-12%. What are folks in this forum using for percentages? Thanks. Mashing out right now.

kwdriver.
I make a chocolate milk stout with 1 lb of lactose (8%), and 8 oz cacao nibs. Turns out great. Better after a year of ageing.

i kegged my first milk stout this last sunday, conditioning in the keg right now. i added the lactose with ten minutes left in the boil, 8.7% of the bill. sample at kegging tasted pretty good, hoping it gets better with some aging.
and i'm sure all this info helps you now, i assume you are still washing out.

Thanks everyone. I ended up pitching about 12oz into the stout during the last 10 minutes of the boil. Hit all my numbers and the fermentation is going strong. Plan on kegging and conditioning on beer gas since my current stout is almost empty.
