So funny story...
I brewed my first Barleywine and bottled same back in November of 2014 when I was still using a mashtun, bottling bucket, etc.
Had a couple of them after they had carbonated...boozy, very malty. Not my favorite.
In any case, I figured I'd just let them age. Some time later, I noticed "mold" growing in pretty much every bottle. Tried opening one and it gushed foam everywhere. Figured the beer was spoiled by some kind of "gusher bug" but couldn't be bothered to dump the bottles, so I just put them on a shelf and forgot about them.
Few months back, took a bottle and tossed it in the fridge. Forgot about it until tonight. Popped it open, expecting a gush. Nope! I was treated to...that distinctive aroma of a...sour beer?
Poured it into a glass and I'll be damned - it's got that delicious Brett funk going on! Go figure! I almost dumped a treasure!
This was all before I knew anything about Brett beers and Pellicles...guess my sanitation back then wasn't up to snuff...but hey, unexpected and unplanned surprise!!
