|
|
Looking at the calculator, it asks for Bicarbonate (HCO3 ppm) or Alkalinity (CaCO3 ppm).
My water report lists Total Alkalnity = 90 but also lists Hardness, Total (as CACO3) = 120.
Which one do I use? Total alkalinity or the hardness total number.
One more question using the calculator. Do you add flaked barley or corn to the grain bill section or just leave it out?

I'd imagine that it's the 120 number as it's specifically CACO3. Otherwise you'd have to use whoever created your water report to confirm.
Use "Base - Other" as the grain type for corn, rice, etc. Not overly critical as it's only to try and guestimate the pH (which is somewhat of a crapshoot anyway - use a pH meter).

Thanks for the reply. Just found out today after many phone calls, my total akalinity number is in CAco3. The report just failed to write it as such.
PH meter just came in last night. I'll be making my first brew with the Electric Brewery this weekend. Can't wait.
