Wife and I are scheduled to visit Toronto this August and need to know where/what are the best craft breweries are in the area. Staying at the Omni King Edwards hotel, anywhere close will be a plus. Thanks, Castermmt

Nice hotel! I would recommend http://www.cestwhat.com/, and http://barvolo.com/ , assuming you will be flying in and using taxi's once you are downtown. As for craft breweries, on your way in from the airport, you will find Black Oak Brewing and Cool Brewing in Etobicoke. Here is a link for maps.http://glbnonline.brewingnews.com/publication/?i=196030

Wow, Thanks for the tip's. I travel for work way too much and get a few nights of free hotel rooms as my reward, the Omni chain is one of the hotels I stay at. The company I work for pays the business stays and I get the perks for when I want to kick it. The wife wanted to go to Niagara Falls and this was the closest hotel. We'll use a cab for the bar hopping for sure.
Again, thanks for the brew house ideas. Castermmt

Tell ya what I'm gonna do. I'll do the websites and post them up for you. My wife and I live between Toronto and Niagara Falls ( Hamilton ) and I can recommend a couple of stops for you on the trip. Remember, Niagara is also wine country and there is a couple of micro's there as well.

Seeing as you are in Lowell, is Three Floyds Alpha King as good as I remember? That was the hop bomb I rotted my taste buds on back in 2001.

yes it is. I'm not far from their brewery, in fact I pass it ion the way to work. I'm not a big fan but do like a few of their beers. Their house yeast I'm told is a version of Wyeast 1968. My wife likes the Gumball head.

We're on vacation this week and decided to do a Sunday and Monday trip. We hit Mills st. brewery, 3 brewers and the beer academy. Plus we only drank local beer when we did drink at other places like restaurants. 3 Brewers was strange, they had 5 or 6 different beers(Blonde, IPA, Brown, Dark, Wheat and 2 seasonal) the bartender told us they are all lagers, which was the strange part. I had the IPA which was pretty good and the wife had the blonde which was good also. We asked for a flight of 4 and the guy said we don't get to pick which ones we get served, we passed and alked over to The Beer Academy which was fantastic. We ended up closing them. Mills st. was great as well. the serer knew her beer and we got to pick our flights this time. we both had 8 different and liked them all. We had no idea that this is also wine country, so we had to try the local tastings when we visited Niagara on the Lake Which was great. We couldn't have picked better weather. on th way home now waiting on our flight out of Buffalo. Toronto was a great place to visit.

That's just a case of the bartender knowing very little about beer. I'm not surprised when this happens in most bars/restaurants but would find it surprising when visiting a place that is known for beer they make themselves.
Mill Street (out of Toronto) makes great stuff. They're a regular in the LCBO (liquor store) here in Ontario. Their Tankhouse (American Amber) is a popular one. Take my American Amber recipe here and replace all the hops with Cascade and you've got something pretty close. They opened up a satellite bar/restaurant here in Ottawa a couple of years ago so when we're downtown we try to head out there.
Glad you enjoyed your visit up in the great white north!
Kal
