I've tried the lit string on fire trick in the past and it's hit or miss.

This might be a neat way to create some unique drinking glasses using old liquor bottles!

Drinking: Pinot barrel aged quad

Working on: Flanders oude bruin in barrel, Flanders red fermenting to refill the barrel

Here's how I open/cut old bottles. Heat tongs with hot flame for about five minutes; clamp on bottle for about one minute; touch ice cube to area where the tongs were touching the bottle. The heat stress fractures the glass.
