A customer from North Carolina sent me some photos of their basement which includes a brewery so that I can could share for others to see. They use our control panel and other associated electrical parts (all built us). The rest of the brewery follows our design as documented on this website. ( Start here to build your own: http://www.theelectricbrewery.com/kettles-overview )

Here's a quote from the homeowner:

Quote:
"I chose to go with The Electric Brewery first because I needed to brew all grain indoors year round. Only electric heating elements are building code compliant where I live. The Electric Brewery setup is incredible. It is elegant, brewhouse efficient, affordable, flexible in both implementation and function, and has incredible WOW factor. One can choose to DIY entirely or to have some components pre-built. The instructions and links to supplies, components and tools are simply brilliant. My non-brewing DIY friends are amazed at Kal's website. The ability to control temperature is a major advantage of this setup. It allows both beginning brewers and experienced brewers the opportunity to brew high quality beer and reproduce it again and again." - Jim H., Asheville, NC

I was curious what Jim's brewing history was / how long he'd be brewing. Here's his reply:

Quote:
I've brewed for 6 years seriously. First with extract and specialty grains. I had thermometers all over my basement and could ferment at lager temperatures during the winter. I started with all grain 4 years ago. A very simple set up with strike and sparge water on the stove top. Mashed in a cooler, gravity sparged through a second cooler. Boiled on a propane burner outside, rain or shine, freezing or in a heat wave. I used a Blichmann plate chiller to cool during the winter, during the summer I pre-cooled the water with a copper coil in an ice bath. I added a chest freezer with a Johnson controller about the same time. I usually ferment both ales and lagers in the freezer with a thermowell to control temperature even better. In addition to brewing in doors and not lifting heavy kettles anymore, I really appreciate the temperature control during mashing your HERMS allows me. I brew pretty good beer most of the time, but had a hard time reproducing my best efforts. I look forward to consistency with The Electric Brewery.

Absolutely beautiful work - I love the granite and tile work. You should be very proud Jim!

I did ask about the range top / stove as you don't normally see that in a brewery. He mentioned that he does some canning, bread baking and charcuterie, so the range comes in handy. On the brewing side it would be useful for decoction mashes (something I've never had the patience to try out).

Here's a shot of the basement space before renovation:

Jim has now finished his basement remodel so I've updated the photos in the first post of this thread.

Absolutely beautiful work!

That bench top looks absolutely amazing. What sort of wood is it?

I'm looking at the counter top myself. What is it made of, looks like it has some man made features maybe concrete? Look fantastic.

Not sure. It does look like some sort of wood stained red.

The main counter-top (the zebra / tiger eye strip) looks like some sort of granite.

It looks like it has a lot of lines that look natural but are going in a lot of different directions.

That's a John Boos maple topped table. I've been eyeing them as well, but they are spendy!
